Air-assisted velocity profiles and perceptive canopy interactions of commercial airblast sprayers used in Pacific Northwest perennial specialty crop production CIGR Journal
Khot, Lav R.
This study aimed at providing a data-driven understanding of air velocity profiles for four commercial airblast sprayers widely used in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) region of the United States. The Rear’s Powerblast (S1) and Pakblast (S2), Turbomist 30P (S3), and Columbia Accutec (S4) were evaluated using the Smart Spray Analytical System (Bahlol et al., 2020). Air velocity contour profiles and geometrical attributes (symmetry and uniformity) were characterized on two sides as well as at three horizontal distances from the outlet (0.6, 1.5, and 2.1 m) of each sprayer. The air velocity profiles were matched to vertical canopy zones of three typical perennial specialty crops (cherry, apple, and grapevine) to identify their suitability. Air velocity...

GENETIC INFORMATION IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AgEcon
Hennessy, David A.; Miranowski, John A.; Babcock, Bruce A..
A prominent facet of recent changes in agriculture has been the advent of precision breeding techniques. Another has been an increase in the level of information inputs and outputs associated with agricultural production. This paper identifies ways in which these features may complement in expanding the variety of processed products, the level of productivity, and the rate of change in productivity. Using a martingale concept of "more information," we identify conditions under which more information increases the incentives to invest and engage in product differentiation. A theory on how genetic uniformity can enhance the rate of learning through process experimentation, and so the rate of technical change, is also developed.

Pinto, Vilson Borba; Costenaro-Ferreira, Cristiano; Oliveira, Paulo Leonardo Silva; Oliveira, Rodrigo Ribeiro Bezerra de; Piedras, Sérgio Renato Noguez; Pouey, Juvêncio Luis Osório Fernandes.
Since probiotics have proved to be a viable alternative to antibiotics as enhancers of animal growth, the performance, uniformity and mortality rates of the jundiá (Rhamdia quelen) larvae fed on diets with different probiotics were evaluated. Jundiá larvae, aged four days post hatching, were fed during 21 days with the following diets, in four replicates, namely, CO: control feed, without probiotics; PP: feed with Pichia pastoris; SB: feed with Saccharomyces boulardii; BT: feed with Bacillus cereus var. toyoi. Among the tested probiotic, Bacillus cereus var. toyoi had the best results due to the fact that the larvae were 25% heavier than CO at the end of the first week; the difference increased to 28% by the end of the trial. Further, BT also improved...
